Penang coming from the modern Malay word Pulau Pinang, the Island of the Areca Nut Palm. In the 15th century, Penang Island was referred to as 檳榔嶼 in the navigational drawings used by Admiral Zheng He 鄭和 of Ming China (明朝)

George Town of Penang Island was founded by Francis Light as a free port, to entice traders from the Dutch trading post.

The Dragon of Kampong Sar Kong... Fire from within...

The dragon is made from straws from the padi (also known as Straw Dragon or 槄草龙). This Fire Dragon as part of its traditional temple event. The event starts with the temple members and devotees lighting the big joss sticks and stick them firmly onto the head, body and tail of the dragon. There was also the pearl ball which is also stuck with joss sticks.
